It was my first time working with face paints so I didn't have any previous experience with other face paint brands or any face paint for that matter. I'd heard from a friend's parents who did face painting at carnivals that the Mehron brand was a good pick. There have also been many good reviews I've seen on other websites.
When the paints first came, the first thing that I found was that they smelt absolutely amazing! I know it seems unusual to say, however if you're covering your body with paint, you don't want it to smell awful. If you're wearing the face paint for several hours like I will be during MCM Expo in October, then the pleasant smell is definitely a +1. Oh, I should have mentioned the smell is some kind of coconut-y, cocoa butter-y mix. At first it seems quite strong but when you actually apply it, it is very subtle.
I decided to do a make-up test for the cosplay and initially I wasn't all that impressed. I was using a sponge to apply it and I found that it wasn't giving me much coverage, however after switching to a brush to apply the paint, I found that the coverage was amazing!
To get the right colour for Miss Cortex's skin, I had to apply several layers which meant that once I'd ended up applying all of it, I was left with a fairly stiff face and it felt fairly cake-y. Despite this, the paint didn't show any signs of cracking which surprised me as the dry, stiff feeling made it seem as though it would!
This paint definitely needs some kind of sealant to ensure it doesn't come off as I found that if I brushed past any surface then I'd leave blue-green marks.
Here are some make-up tests!~
I applied the layers of colour in this order: white, light green, light blue and then black.
(These are only demo tests! The final look will be much better! ♥)
When I experiment with these paints again soon, I'll be sure to do individual swatches of each of the colours!
I hope this post was somewhat helpful to some people!
Have a great day,
Ren ♥
